Wasting Time on Planet Earth

We are going to legalize marijuana, nationally, eventually. We'll legalize same sex marriage. We're going to have to strengthen rights for workers. We're going to clean up the shenanigans on Wall Street and put some of these bankers in prison. We're going to do campaign finance reform. We'll be able to reinstate the Voting Rights Act, and enforce it, knowing immediately when it's being threatened, how, why, and immediately reject that threat. We're going to reject making this a theocracy, tax the churches, and stop giving them preferential status in the national debate. We're going to have to put more resources and stronger protections into the environment and stop climate change. And we're gong to do all of this soon. Because we realize these things, ALL these things, and more, are the right things to do. That they make sense, and that NOT to go in that direction is detrimental to the ideals of a democracy, is deadly to capitalism, is wasting lives, and destroying human potential.

Or we can move this country in the direction that the theocrats and plutocrats want to go. We can run the world according to second century mythology. We can decide that might makes right and power is it's own rationality. We can decide that we are a police state that must protect the powerful at all costs. That people are only cogs in the wheels of production, and, failing that, are mere obstructions that must be moved out of the way. That all of nature must be destroyed in the name of profit. That people are mere people, but corporations are special people with extra powers and, privileges, and protections. That lies are truth, peace is war, and ignorance is truly bliss. (Here's a hint. It's been tried many times before. The results of that particular experiment are already in.)

But I'm too old and tired to watch the whole mind-fuck of this country pretending to be what it is not, and what it never was. It's a waste of time. Let's get where we're going. One way or the other. Now.

  Either way.

"Conservatives" are either wrong or lying, about EVERYTHING.

But, they're more than likely to win in the end.
