The Gun Debate and Why the World Looks at Us Funny

Just a question but can someone give me an example of murderous criminal obeying a gun law?

Paul Hayne How about Paris?
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell How about Paris? Fewer gun deaths by far than in the US, regardless of the recent attacks. Fewer gun deaths in a decade than most American cities half that size in a week.
Paul Hayne
Paul Hayne Like I said give me an example of a criminal obeying the gun laws in place. It is not about the gun it is about the culture.
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell Here we have a culture that glorifies and fetishizes guns. Not for our freedoms to own them, but for the manufacturers freedom to sell them to us. We're being played. And we don't care.
Paul Hayne
Paul Hayne How are we being played? I have owned a gun since I was 12 yrs old. I have never pointed one at another person nor have I ever had the need too,
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell What kind of gun? And for what purpose? And how do you keep it safe? And what happens when that fails? Anyway, congrats. No one got harmed by your gun. Yet.
Chris Timmons
Chris Timmons Couldn't resist myself. All those guns just laying around and not a single drop of blood shed. Man, I must be one of those responsible gun owners that shouldn't be punished because of the actions of a few criminals.

Paul Hayne Yet? Remember that word the next time you drive home from the bar.
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell Well, fine. Then we have nothing to do. Watch the bloodshed and tell the victims that there's nothing we can do. Other countries have found solutions, but we need to have our "freedoms".
Chris Timmons
Chris Timmons If more responsible gun owners carried their concealed weapons then you'd see a lot less "mass" shootings, because to stop a bad guy with a weapon you need a good guy with a gun. If at just one of these "mass" shootings some responsible cwp holder could have stepped up and stopped the threat then that "mass" shooting turns into 1 or 2 deaths with 1 of them being the bad guy. You'll also notice that 99.9% of these shootings occur in places where legal concealed carry is not allowed. So the shooter knows he has a bunch of defenseless people standing around.
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell Actually the statistics (and physics, and history) don't bear that rational out. More guns have always equaled more carnage. But I'm not saying that's a BAD thing...
Chris Timmons
Chris Timmons Obviously someone like yourself with no knowledge of firearms would surely equal more carnage in those situations but as I stated, responsible cwp holders(that's someone who knows how to handle a firearm and takes the time to practice) would certainly be able to stop such tragedies from occurring if they had the chance. According to the CDC 75,472 people died in 2013 as a result of drugs and alcohol. In that same year 36,636 people died in firearm related deaths. So let's make drugs and alcohol illegal as well then. Oh wait....drugs already are illegal. Guess that whole argument of banning guns doesn't sound like it'll work too well.

Alex McDowell It already HAS worked. Everywhere else in the civilized world. But that's ok. It's not in our nature to notice.
Christopher McCracken
Christopher McCracken Paul, it seems you have one of those well-behaved fire arms. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to tell the difference between the well-behaved ones and the evil ones, the ones that kill. Because of those few evil fire arms that convince people to take them where they can kill people, the good fire arms now have bad reputations, too. We need to find a way to get these evil fire arms off the streets before more people lose their minds and call for the removal of the good fire arms along with the evil ones.

Paul Hayne I refer back to my original question. And, What law will make a suicidal killer not kill?

Becky Dillon As someone who was held at gun point while pregnant for 4 hours you would think I would be for more gun control but I am not for more restrictions on a person's right to protect themselves! Inner cities are full of shootings everyday by people who do n...See More

Alex McDowell Who had the gun to your head? How did they get to that situation? What would you have been able to do if you had a gun, with safety on (I would suppose), in your purse while that gun was held to your head?
Why do you suppose there are so many guns in the hands of criminals in this country? Did they just fall out of the gun heavens?

Alex McDowell In the meantime, lobbyists for the people that want to sell you guns have put a muzzle on scientific and medical studies of the gun culture and its effects on health:

Becky Dillon
Becky Dillon My ex husband had the gun and no I would not have been able to protect myself in that situation but maybe if I would have had a gun I could have kept him from stalking me and beating me instead of waiting on a police officer with a gun to come save me!!!!! That freaking piece of paper they gave me worked real well at protecting me........NOT!!!!. We already have guns laws and in the places where they have the toughest gun laws you have the highest gun deaths. Explain Chicago if gun laws work. guns are not the problem, it is the lack of companion and respect of life that is the problem. and more guns laws are not going to fix that, but more guns laws will contribute to it because less people will have the means to protect themselves. I DO NOT want to have to shot anyone but until this world calms down I refuse to give up my RIGHT to protect my self from the nut cases out there who do want to take lives!!!!.
Becky Dillon
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell Actually, if you read the list I posted, the highest number of gun deaths per capita occur in states with the laxest restrictions on gun purchases. One could surmise (if not prove) that guns come into places like Chicago from surrounding states that don't put so many restrictions on gun sales.
How did your ex have a gun in the first place? And why? Was he a "good guy with a gun" who turned bad?
Becky Dillon
Becky Dillon talk all the gun control you want but until groups who have no other purpose than the death and destruction of others is taken care of and as long as the drug dealers who bring thousands of illegal guns into this country killing people I WILL KEEP MY GUNS!!!
Alex McDowell
Alex McDowell Drug dealers don't "bring guns into this country". The problem we're discussing is the ease in THIS country for them to get them.
Becky Dillon
Becky Dillon If you chose to believe that just keep believing that, me I chose not to be defenseless! I have every right to PROTECT myself form ANYONE who tries to take my rights or life or harm my family or myself....period!!
