A Little Free Advice for John Kasich

"I paid for this microphone"- Ronald Reagan, 1980

Seriously. I think of John Kasich as the most dangerous candidate for the GOP nomination, at least on paper. The one who could give whichever Democratic nominee the hardest run for the money. But he got out of the gate too late, and his message (does he even have a message?) is being swamped by the megalomaniacal shit-storm that is Donald Trump.

Now looms the deadline.Or, to put it more in perspective, The Deadline. Capitalized. August 4th. Fox News set the first national GOP debate, in conjunction with the RNC, I presume, and the crucial ground-rules of who can participate, being only the top ten candidates by rank in an average of the top national polls (which have yet to be named). And sitting on top of all the polls, comfortably enough to be guaranteed a spot in spite of almost anything that could happen between now and then, is The Donald, himself. Sucking up all the air, lashing out at almost everyone, making a grand buffoon of himself and the process, and embarrassing the party.

I'm shamelessly stealing my suggestion from a plot line in the final season of the TV drama The West Wing. (You can look up the details).

Rick Santorum was the first active candidate to voice concern over the arbitrary coup that the Fox debate format has become. But he still has not "revolted"...so to say.

Now we get down to those little guys, Santorum, Perry, Jindal, all the rest who are polling poorly enough to likely be left out of the debate, which includes YOU, John Kasich...

The guy that's going to be the game changer is going to be the first one that tells Fox to shove it. The guy that ponies up the money, rents a hall, invites the "little guys" AND any of the other candidates who wish to an alternative non-GOP/Fox sanctioned (therefore, perhaps informal or "unofficial")  debate. The first guy that says,"Whether or not I qualify in time, I refuse to participate." The first guy that's polling well and STILL decides to forgo the Fox debate in favor of the alternative is going to get some good buzz, as well. Ideally, it would be great if Fox held the debate and only the blow-hard Donald showed up, while the rest of the party was at the "other" one.

Offer the whole shebang to the part of the media the Party considers to be "in the enemy camp". PBS, Msnbc, NBC or whoever. They would jump at the chance. It would be a ratings bonanza.

Anyway, I'm not a supporter of any of the GOP, as is obvious to anyone that's followed this blog. I just can't believe this simple solution to grabbing the national media attention and setting oneself apart from the pack hasn't been put forward by anyone yet.

Governor Kasich, it's wide open. It's your grand opportunity. If you're the first to actually do it, you have the limelight you so desperately  need right now.
