Ferguson

I don't get it. I get it. People are angry. And an angry mob is capable of anything.

What I don't get is that every time this happens, Watts, the Rodney King riots, Ferguson, every time, the angry poor folks are taking it out on their own community. If you're going to have that kind of destructive energy, (which, BTW, I do not entirely negate as a purely destructive force) why don't you take it out on the people that caused the problems in the first place? They should be trashing the gated wealthy communities and looting the country clubs. Laying siege to the Podunk police stations and their "protect and serve the rich, kill the poor" mercenaries.

The capitalist white power structure doesn't really care that you have inter-mural scuffles in your own communities. They don't even notice it, unless they think it's a good thing. You want to burn shit down AND have an effect? Support your own communities and burn down the shit of the bad guys.

As usual, Jim Wright over at Stonekettle Station did the issue far more justice than I could with his "pressure cooker" post.

What is going down in Ferguson is going to dictate how we live for a long time. One way or another, depending on how it breaks, and how the lessons are spun.
What are the limits of protest? What is justice? If the police are wrong, by what authority and in whose service are they acting?
If the protestors can be called "thugs", what do we call a uniformed, heavily armed gang that calls the shots, and actually SHOOTS?
Why do they get to dictate how the press covers the story?
And why are there NEVER police that stand up against the heavy handed and possibly illegal tactics of their cohorts?
