Media Vs News

Why do we get wall-to-wall coverage of every detail of a grisly murder, including live coverage of the trials, but next to nothing on investigative reporting, context, and commentary on stories like this? THIS is news. This is information that an informed electorate needs. Murders are not news.

And, as murderers go, the ones we get coverage of are rank amateurs compared to the liars, polluters, treasonous terrorists, and war mongers that are the ruling class of today's corporate U. S. A.

Never mind. I think I just answered my own question.

Local news is the worst. A constant parade of brown and black people in orange jump suits paraded in front of a judge, serving only to sell us things. Move to a better neighborhood. Get a nicer house. Buy security equipment. Get a gun. Go to church. Meanwhile, city hall is in bed with corporations to cut their taxes, deregulate their business, and make sure the cops are watching out for their interests.

Do you ever notice that the roads going around state capitals are always the best maintained in the state? That potholes are a far worse problem in the poorer parts of every town?

Poverty puts people in a far worse hole than we ever imagine when you notice all the little details.  Wealth and power have more perks and self-sustaining built-in systems than you know. There is the grotesque, and there is the subtle. And it all is built to keep the spigots of wealth and power flowing in one direction.

And the media, owned and controlled by wealthy and powerful people, is the faucet that makes sure you don't pay attention to the details.
