French Service and Manners for Tourists

Never been there. Wish to go someday. But I'm guessing the reputation is from rudeness from the clientele. Nobody that has traveling experience and good manners ever complains about the French. It always seems to come from the people that can't understand why they don't treat their ignorant asses as nice as their ugly dumb asses get treated at Olive Garden. "Why don't they comp our meal? And, Cletus, why don't they have great Italian restaurants like Olive Garden around here?"
It would be a dream to split several bottles with some off-duty French servers.
Too mean? I'm drinking, damnit.
