Predictive Predicament: Anthony Weiner

I may not have mentioned it, but my prediction abilities are not terrible. But off. By a hair, usually. According to an earlier post, Anthony Weiner should have given up his mayoral run by today. He's a dogged, driven man. Any time now, Tony.

He hasn't got a chance. And all he's accomplishing is to keep his scandal highlighted in the news, drive home the memory to the public, and put off the time he needs to polish up his reputation. After this last round of sexted dishonor, he should have dropped out immediately, apologized, and gone into hiding for awhile, to appear in a couple of years in a lower profile campaign. Will McAvoy had it right. He's getting terrible advice.

But that's impossible. According to everything I have read, he is married to the single smartest and most able woman ever to schedule a dinner for the Clintons. SHE MADE THE TRAINS RUN!

How he could possibly have wrong-footed anything with her as his partner is beyond me. Hence, I can only determine that we are ALL wrong and Huma and the Weiner are right.

Mext. Mayor. Of. New York.

"Mext. Mayor."? Are you implying that he's "sexting" Mexicans now?

(sorry, I had to.)

Are you truly serious that you think Weiner will be able to be "cured" and try another comeback in a couple of years? I don't think so. Not without some serious long-term therapy. But even then I wonder if it's possible. If his first huge humiliation didn't do it, a great wife and new son, I wonder if anything can.

Well, not now. But look at all the other come-backs. And in the GOP, you don't even have to "come-back", you don't get forced out in the first place. The mayoral bid was too high profile for the first try, and too soon. And then, having the second wave of scandal, his best bet would have been to duck, cover, and mea culpa his brains out. Private life, for awhile. Maybe an activist, maybe a political writer, or consultant. Something in the background. Then ward something or other in a few years, if he can't stay out of the political life. But it's not who he is. And who he is won't let him be what he wants.

But each day he demanded to stay in the race was another 5 years of comeback trail. Too many bridges burned, too many supporters scorned, too much money that won't ever back him again. And now, I'm sorry. Too late. A comeback from something like this, in politics? Ain't going to happen.
